When I went home after Christopher and Patrick’s beautiful weekday afternoon wedding, I was absolutely beaming. It felt so special to be a part of their intimate celebration. The focus of the relaxed ceremony was on Christopher and Patrick and their love and commitment to one another. There was no pomp, there was no concern about decor or “wedding colors”: it was just about the two of them, this beautiful couple that has been in love for decades. Christopher and Patrick first fell in love while attending college in Texas, and although they briefly went their separate ways, both men admit that they never fell out of love with the other during that time. The two reunited and now they live together in Texas. They decided to celebrate their wedding in the Nation’s Capital with a four day sightseeing trip with immediate family that ended with their Thursday wedding at the Carnegie Institute. Christopher and Patrick’s family members surrounded them in a semicircle and blessed the couple’s wedding rings. Both Christopher and Patrick’s mothers performed readings and their parents held hands throughout the union. After C+P were married, the intimate group of eight traveled to the Hay Adams in a limousine so that they could enjoy a decadent dinner in the Lafayette. I truly felt like a guest at this wedding. Christopher, Patrick, and their families were so warm and welcoming, and I felt extremely honored to witness such a special union. My job is a gift. Congratulations, Christopher + Patrick!

Maureen Burke, who was the officiant at my own wedding, presided over the meaningful ceremony
