Kristin & Dan at the Wilton House Museum in Richmond, Virginia

Nontraditional. This is how Kristin & Dan’s friend and officiant kept describing the couple and their wedding day during the ceremony, and he was 100% right. When Kristin & Dan first described their wedding day to me, when calling from their home in California, they referred to it as an “upside-down cake”. I was immediately intrigued, of course, and I could not wait to photograph their wedding. Kristin and Dan did not follow the usual wedding agenda at all, and it was a refreshing change. K&D planned the celebration that they wanted, and it was unique and perfect. The day started with the couple greeting all of their friends and loved ones at Selba for brunch, in the fabulous foodie town of Richmond, the city where Dan grew up. Kristin and Dan mingled with their friends and drank traditional or Chesapeake bloody marys, sipped on mimosas, and dined on chicken and waffles. The food was amazing. Then, after changing in to their wedding garb, K&D were married along the James River at Wilton House Museum in an early afternoon ceremony. Their nuptials were followed by a relaxed outdoor reception, which included decadent desserts and a wine tasting. And once all the guests left and we had the place to ourselves, we took a few portraits. It was such a gorgeous, perfect, and nontraditional wedding for a unique and nontraditional couple. I loved it and I love them. Congratulations, Kristin & Dan!
