Whoa what a special wedding this was. It was full of song, dance, celebration, and sweet, meaningful glances shared between the newlyweds. Adam and Alexandra’s Jewish faith is an integral part of their lives, and they took a scholarly approach to their ceremony, reconstructing some ancient traditions to focus more on the newlyweds as equals. In addition to some Jewish traditions I was familiar with such as the Ketubbah, Bedeken and the Hora, their wedding day also included some customs that were delightfully new to me: the Shtick, when their friends entertained them with dances and goofy jokes following the Hora; Grace After Meals, during which the newlyweds and guests sat in a circle singing Hebrew songs and drinking wine at the very end of the reception; and finally, I love that the couple was frequently greeted (and escorted) by singing, dancing and clapping guests throughout the wedding day – when they left the hotel, when Adam walked to the Ketubah, and once the couple was officially married. It was a delightful wedding day full of joy, cheer and meaningful customs. Mazel Tov to Alexandra + Adam!
